In 2024, 20+ professionals from 15 companies came together for five sessions as part of a Peer Learning Group focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). These sessions provided a safe and open space for participants to discuss both the challenges and best practices related to advancing DEI within their organizations. Topics ranged widely, from caretaking and part-time work policies to managing organizational change and addressing microaggressions in the workplace. This brief report captures the key takeaways and resources shared throughout these discussions, offering insights to support ongoing DEI efforts.
The report provides actionable insights into fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in your company by addressing key areas such as inclusive leadership and the importance of understanding power dynamics, identifying both visible power holders and those with “soft power” to form strategic alliances and overcome obstacles. In addition you can tools & resources that can help you spark DEI dialogues. For example through interactive games such as Let's play equal. Furthemore, the report introduces the ABC Model, which highlights three key groups: A, the ideology setters who shape cultural norms and values; B, the privileged individuals who benefit from societal privileges; and C, the marginalized individuals affected by discrimination, with the focus on driving change by influencing groups A and B rather than placing the burden of adaptation on group C.
This Peer Learning Group was co-led by AkzoNobel, Blueyse & Sparks Impact. The participating companies were Assent, BCD Travel, HKV, IDA Foundation, JCL Logistics, JDE Peet's, J&J Innovative Medicine Nederland, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Plato Group, PostNL, Sustainable Capital Group and Tsunagu.
