Manon's Pick of the Month

Always speak up for justice

“This month, I visited the National Monument Oranjehotel, a former Nazi prison in Scheveningen. It was a powerful reminder of the fragility of human rights. During World War II, it held over 25,000 people—Resistance members, Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and others labeled as offenders. Standing in a cramped 2-by-4-meter cell, where up to four people lived, I imagined the harsh reality of the oppression and stripping away of personal dignity. Reading and listening to people’s stories, you realize that the erosion of human rights often begins subtly and unnoticed. For me, it served as an important reminder to always speak up and act for justice. In the Netherlands, this could mean joining the Feminist March in Amsterdam and ensuring your company stands firm in its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts. In our interconnected world, it also applies to buying more sustainably and ethically and mitigating human rights risks in our value chains. Only then can we build a sustainable and inclusive world we can be truly proud of.” - Jamie Holton, Senior Programme Manager
